Last Thursday I was lucky enough to attend the launch of the Urban Decay x Gwen Stefani Spring collection…in NEW YORK CITY! Ok, you probably already know that as I have gone on about it all week – a NYC post will be up soon. Anyway, I was given a goody bag filled with all of the UDXGWEN products which made it feel like Christmas all over again. The Gwen collection consists of an eyeshadow palette, a blush palette, a brow box, lip liners and lipsticks. I thought I would do a post on the lip products in the collection because they are simply fab and when I think of Gwen and makeup lipstick comes to mind.

The packaging of these lip products has a 1920’s art deco vibe with its black and gold print which I love!

In total there are eight lipsticks and six lip liners (I am missing one liner called Phone Call) all chosen by Gwen. Each of the lip liners are called the same name as one of the lipsticks so they are a match made in heaven. This makes it so easy to know which pair to buy, obviously there are no rules when it comes to makeup (within reason of course!) so you could use any liner with the lipstick you desire.

With the 24/7 waterproof formula these lip liners are super long lasting. Despite being long lasting they don’t have a drying texture and are very creamy and glide onto the lip effortlessly. A great tip for making your lipstick last longer is to not only line your lips but fill them in completely with the lip liner before applying the lipstick.

ex

Ex Girlfriend lip liner and lipstick

Ex Girlfriend is the nude of the collection. This has a hydrating texture and is sheer – like a gloss but non-sticky. To me this is a ‘my lips but better’ colour. In the photo above I simply lined my lips with the lip liner and filled in my lips with the lipstick. For a more obvious lip colour the entire lip in with the liner first – that way it won’t wear off so quick either. I really love this shade as it is very wearable with any look.

wonderland

Wonderland lip liner and lipstick

Wonderland is a vibrant red pink shade. It is highly pigmented, long lasting and has a creamy texture. To achieve the bold look I lined around the lips with the liner and filled them in with the lipstick. With red or dark lipsticks it makes it so much easier to use a lip liner before a lipstick to avoid feathering or going over your lip line. This is one of my favourite shades in the collection.

firebird

Firebird lip liner & lipstick

Firebird is a bright fuchsia creamy lipstick. It has obvious blue undertones and is some what iridescent. It isn’t as opaque as some of the others but feels hydrating. It is a fun colour and kind of reminds me of ’80s Barbie.

714

714 lip liner & lipstick

714 is a bright orange red. This is is only matte in the collection but is referred to as a ‘mega matte’ making is very long lasting. This colour screams Gwen in my opinion! As with most matte lip products, this was a little stiffer to apply than the cream finishes but it surprising didn’t make my lips feel overly dry which was great.

rock steady

Rock Steady lip liner & lipstick

Rock Steady is the darkest in the collection. It is a deep wine red with a creamy texture. I have worn this lipstick a few times now so I must say it is my number 1 favourite of the collection. Although its creamy and not matte it lasts all day. As this is a dark opaque but creamy lip colour I am thankful there is a lip liner available as the darker the lipstick the harder it is to avoid feathering around the edges.

phone

Phone Call lipstick

Phone Call is a bright pink yet is classed as a sheer shade. Although it is classed as sheer it still has great colour pay off. It feels hydrating on the lips and lasts longer than you would expect from a ‘sheer’ lipstick. This also comes with a lip liner.

spiderweb

Spiderweb lipstick

Spiderweb is a bright neutral almost cool toned red with a creamy texture. I feel this is another obvious Gwen shade – of course they were chosen by her but you know what I mean (I hope!). This is pretty opaque, long lasting and feels smooth on the lips.

Plaid

Plaid lipstick

Plaid is a sheer cool toned berry shade. To me, this looks a bit like a lip stain but with a glossy appearance if that makes any sense. This isn’t as bold as some of the other shades in the collection so may be more wearable for everyday – although personally I’d even wear the boldest to the supermarket but thats just me!

OMG! Love all of the colors – but I think that Ex Girlfriend would have to be my favorite. I also love the fact that the names remind me so much of Gwen’s days with No Doubt. o.O Does that make me old? Hope that you had an awesome time in NY.
