Lokum Istanbul

Whisk yourself off to Istanbul without even leaving your house with Lokum Istanbul*. Immerse your senses with the scents and taste of Turkey by lighting one of their pleasantly highly scented candles, spraying some of their luxury cologne and indulging in their delicious Turkish Delight. I know on a dreary day like today I’d like to be somewhere I can feel the sun on my body and experience a different culture so whilst I’m writing this my candle is burning away and as I close my eyes for just a second I can teleport myself to another place.

The candle comes in a glass tumbler but is also encased inside a highly decorative but muted box. The lid is a lovely touch as it has the appearance of a traditional velvet fez hat. The burning time of this particular style of candle is 40 hours. The scent can be smelt throughout the house whilst it is burning as it is very strong but not in a ‘oh my head hurts kind of way’ but its rich and smells like an expensive and ‘real’ candle – if that even makes sense! I have the candle named ‘Istanbul’s Ritual’ which is said to be the smell of the mystic, which is perfect for me for when I’m meditating.

The cologne I have is ‘Gardens of Babylon’ and to be honest it isn’t my cup of tea at all. It smells a bit too old for my liking but it literally smells like a garden with freshly cut grass which obviously isn’t unpleasant in the slightest but just not for me as it smells more like an expensive air freshener. Each cologne however has a Turkish story behind it which is a cute touch.

I was so excited when I was told the Turkish Delight was suitable for vegetarians. I remember before I was a vegetarian I tried Turkish Delight and loved it, I must have been about ten years old at the time but the rose taste couldn’t be forgotten. I am so impressed with Lokum for making this product without gelatine and it tastes incredible. It is packaged inside a beautifully decorated box which would make a wonderful gift.
