RiRi Hearts MAC ‘Smoked Cocoa’ Eyeshadow

I was in the car on the way to my weekly physio session when I had a text message from my friend, Carley, who told get to get on the MAC website right away as the RiRi Hearts MAC line had finally launched. With the usual anticipation of a limited edition line from MAC I erratically scrolled through the website on my phone. I scrolled as quickly as I could and put as many of the products into my basket as possible. A couple of items got taken out of my basket because they had sold out at the speed of light. However, I managed to purchase this eyeshadow quad in ‘Smoked Cocoa’ for £33. I also got 187SE Brush, ‘Hibiscus Kiss’ powder blush & the liquid eyeliner. I haven’t used the eyeliner or the brush as was meaning to take them back as think they were a waste of money as they don’t look anything special, especially the eyeliner. The power of celebrity and limited edition makeup hey?! Anyway, where was I? Oh, yes the eyeshadow quad!

I love the rose gold theme of the packaging but there’s something about this compact that looks cheap and I can’t put my finger on it.

The shades are a champagne, matte grey, glittery black & matte black. The shimmery champagne colour is the most pigmented out of them all and highlights your brow bone beautifully. The other colours definitely need a few layers to create the look you’d want from this palette. As you can see by my swatch the colours appear a little bit wishy-washy and that was after about 3 layers. Therefore, if you are patient and have the time once you’ve built the colours up you end up with a lovely smokey eye. I really liked the result this palette gave me but its just a shame the colours aren’t more pigmented for the price.

I wore the matte grey on my lid, the black in my crease, a bit of the black glitter on the outer corner & the champagne colour on the brow bone and on the inner corner of the eye (I also wore white eyeliner on the inner corner). I wore this look this afternoon as it was quite a soft smokey eye. However, you could switch the grey for the black to create a more dramatic night time look.

Favourite shade: Champagne – highlights the brow bone well.

Worst shade: Glittery black – the glitter didn’t stand out enough and the colour is the least pigmented.

If you really wanted to get this palette the bad news is that it is sold out. The good news? You could easily find dupes of these shades and perhaps even better variations.

I was originally gutted that I didn’t get to this eyeshadow before it sold out but your review made me realise I wanted it more for the packaging than the colours. Although they look good I think I may be able to get similar without the celebrity pricing. Thanks 🙂
